Forgery #7 - Sarah Davies 1841 Sampler Kit

The verse on Sarah’s sampler is: “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of god is eternal life through Jesus grist our lord”. Part of the charm of this piece is the misspelling of Jesus Christ. Sarah’s sampler originated from Wales and not only has the maker’s name, age and date, but also includes her teacher’s name: Mrs. Matthias Cardigan. Other features of this sampler include several wonderful flower pots, a dog, birds and a lion.

Finished size:  11 1/4" x 15 1/4"
Fabric: 32 count Sandstone Linen

Stitches Used: Cross Stitch, Cross Stitch over one, Elongated Cross, Double Running, and Algerian Eye.
