A very early, dated Scottish sampler exhibiting several bands frequently found on samplers of this time period. These include grape, pansy and carnation bands. A great variety of stitches are used to add interest and texture to each band. There are also two alphabets, one in Satin Stitch and the second in Eyelet. Each alphabet is missing the letters J and U, as these letters were not used prior to the end of the 18th century. The sampler is completed with an impressive flamestitch band repeating all of the colors used in the preceding bands. Like the original, this reproduction is worked mainly over three linen threads.
