A fine Scottish sampler composed of several variations of undulating flowering bands which are predominately worked in reds, greens and blues. The flowers, borders and dividing bands are worked in Montenegrin Stitch creating a heavy, dense appearance. Many of the flowers have filling stitches that add dimension and texture to the band. The inscription reads: “In my begining God be my good speed In grace and vertve long to proceed Remember thy creator in the days of thy yovth Ann Sandford 1698” The final alphabet is worked in Eyelet Stitch over four linen threads.
